“Bertlemann didn’t invent the shortboard, he just showed us how to ride it. No one had a greater influence on the way people surf than him. Larry Bertlemann was one of the most futuristic surfers of the past. His approach is retro now, but it was progressive then. Surfing has done a whole lot of changing in the 40 or so years since this was filmed, but there’s something about Larry’s attitude and approach that can be applied to modern surfing.”
